love + magic

I spent last weekend in a friend's beach house in a beautiful beach called Punta Islita. Both the hotel and tiny town practice responsible tourism, where you can see a magical village build by a group of artists and entrepreneurs. Although small (the whole town revolves around a soccer field), it's got a kindergarten, school, museum, artists' studio (where art classes are given to locals), church, convenience store and police station. Here are some of my favorite pics of the trip.

make yourself

We all know Annie Leibovitz, the talented artist who started out as chief photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine in the 1970's, and who shot the famous portrait of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1980 (she was the last person to photograph him, as he was shot and killed five hours later). This year, Nike Women has launched its Fall 2011 campaign with the help of Leibovitz, and seven of the world's greatest female athletes, featuring: Li Na, Sofia Boutella, Perri Shakes-Drayton, Maria Sharapova, Hope Solo and Laura Enever. Freshness Mag describes the campaign as one that challenges each one of us to “Make Yourself”, to take up on the unforeseen challenges in life, to be ready for the successes or failures to come, and strength the belief that one’s character is not predestined, but shaped by perseverance, hard work, and doses of pains, sweats, and tears. A very powerful campaign, dramatic as Liebovitz can get with her use of light and color, but as an athlete -and I think I can speak for most non-athletes as well- I want to put my running shoes on and head to the tracks. Well, honestly, what I really want is to be photographed by Leibovitz, or perhaps become her successor. But hey, a girl can dream...and according to Nike, a girl can make herself!

I just wanted to quickly share this beautiful photos I found in So Happi Together blog taken by Up Imagery.

trailer beauty

Photo-shoot by Matt Barnes modeled by Lindsey Gayle Evans (Playboy Playmate October 2009), set in the 1970's on a trailer. I've seen pictures of Lindsey and I never thought of her as having a wow factor of any kind, just a typical American beauty queen: tanned, blond & bright eyes. However, Matt manages to bring about a story of this Southern trailer trash (mind the contradiction) beauty that despite her lifestyle and habits, she looks impeccable. The thing that makes him not good, but a great, photographer is his ability to create a story with light and color!

fantastic duo

Argentinians Gaby Herbstein (photographer) and Pablo Bernasconi (illustrator) collaborated to produce these magnificent images for a Buenos Aires based foundation called Fundación Azara that promotes activities for the community and the environment. The images were used for their 2011 calendar called "Garbage is not Garbage".

Paul Angel

This weekend I took a trip to beautiful Weymouth (UK) and again found more inspirations that I would love to share with you!
I took a tea break with a friend to Easton and found the White Stones Cafe that happens to be a gallery with sculptural gardens too. Absolutely gorgeous! On my way out I found an eye-catching sign that read LOVE in bright colors, hanging on the wall. I went back home to research into the piece and it turned out to be Paul Angel's artwork! In his website, it said that Paul spent a lot of time at art college producing work that was heavily dependent on word play, using text within paintings, prints or photographs to change the context of the image. His collection is called Alphabet Coast, and it's worth to check it out!
