Paul Angel

This weekend I took a trip to beautiful Weymouth (UK) and again found more inspirations that I would love to share with you!
I took a tea break with a friend to Easton and found the White Stones Cafe that happens to be a gallery with sculptural gardens too. Absolutely gorgeous! On my way out I found an eye-catching sign that read LOVE in bright colors, hanging on the wall. I went back home to research into the piece and it turned out to be Paul Angel's artwork! In his website, it said that Paul spent a lot of time at art college producing work that was heavily dependent on word play, using text within paintings, prints or photographs to change the context of the image. His collection is called Alphabet Coast, and it's worth to check it out!

Green & Spring

I read the article about the Green & Spring packaging by Pearlfisher in the Communication Arts issue in (or around) November 2009, and immediately fell in love. The design was one of my major inspirations for the illustrations and design of my hotel project.
I grabbed the following description of the project from POPSOP:
The GREEN & SPRING collection is a new, natural bath and body range of handmade products inspired by the idyllic English countryside and above all the spectacular C.Side spa and Cowley Manor estate in Gloucestershire. The design needed to work within this framework to capture the magic and uniqueness of the product and focuses on the countryside and namely the birds that can be spotted within the British Isles. Each product, within the three ranges, is characterised by an individual British bird and segmented by individual colour palettes that are directly linked to the emotions associated with them. The ‘Indulging’ products are inspired by warming hues of reds, pinks and oranges, the ‘Relaxing’ products focus on softer and more romantic shades such as purples and greys with the ‘Revitalising’ range engaging the senses with zesty yellows and greens. The front of pack copy forms part of the design story and highlights the key ingredients and their benefits for each product, bringing a ‘poetic clarity’ to the overall visual world of GREEN & SPRING.

Dorset Cereals Packaging

I do apologize for not updating my blog, but I had my final portfolio deadline due and was going nuts! However, I will post the pics later this week to show the outcome of two months work in my hotel project!
I needed some R&R this weekend after such hard work and went to visit my boyfriend in Bristol. I have to say I couldn-t see anything but design...EVERYWHERE!
One of which, specially, I have to share with you is the Dorset Cereals Packaging, designed by Big Fish in the UK (who of course won a Gold Design Effectiveness Award with it!).
I bought the cereal for two reasons, which later turned into three:
1. DESIGNTASTIC packaging!
2. We needed cereal.
and 3. It ended up tasting delicious!

coqué azcona

Recently I was looking for inspirations for a postcard design for a hotel project I-m doing. I have these images I-m using throughout the design of the hotel, but I wanted to use them in a different way so that it wouldn-t become monotonous.
I-m subscribed to this online magazine called LeCool, in Barcelona, where it shows you all the artsy events going on in the city, and the front page was done by this amazing illustrator called Coqué Azcona. I thought right then and there it was a perfect solution for my project, and I think it is worthwhile to check her out!

newbie intro

Well, since I-m new in this social networking thing, I thought it would be nice to talk a bit about myself. I-m graduating this May in Communications with an emphasis in Graphic Design from Simmons College, in Boston, MA. I started out studying Fine Arts in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and did many courses in areas such as drawing, photography, jewelry, etc...and realized how freaking amazing the world of art and design is.
It is important, at least for me, to tell you that I-m from Costa Rica. I-m 22 years old and lived in Boston for 3 years. Currently, I-m living in Barcelona- doing my LAST SEMESTER abroad and interning in an agency called Mandaruixa Design. I-m absolutely living the design life here, trying to grasp every pixel out there and adding it to my vault.
So, my idea here is (besides adding some of my projects) just uploading inspiration I find in the world out there from all of you people who create wonderful pieces. I tend to store images everywhere and then never find them, so I think this is a great place to never loose them! I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I do!
P.S.: The images above are some of my drawings. Ink, charcoal and pencil on paper. Enjoy!
